Robert
Miller Christy was an authority on Essex history and member of the
Essex Archaeological Society (the forerunner to the Essex Society
for Archaeology and History). He supervised the excavation of the
Harlow Roman Temple site in 1927 but is best known as author of three
books: 'Handbook for Essex (1887), Trade Signs of Essex (1887) and
'Birds of Essex' (1890).
